In December 2025, Italian hydrogen energy leading group, including Professor Marco Torresi from the Polytechnic University of Bari, Dr. Cosimo Del Vecchio (former president of the EU Innovation Association), Alessandro Saponaro ( CEO of the CCA Research Center – Centro Combustione Ambiente SpA , the Southern Italy technological Testing Center), and Dr. Ilaria (director of the Hydrogen Energy Department of MERMAC, the second-largest train company), traveled from Italy to China to meet with Great Wall Motors in Baoding, Hebei Province, for the acceptance of the first round of hydrogen energy testing center projects jointly initiated by the EU and Italian governments.
In 2023, under the organization and leadership of PLD, the Great Wall FTXT team traveled to Italy, held talks with the EU Innovation Center (CNR), and signed a strategic cooperation memorandum. Simultaneously, PLD organized meetings between the general managers of ten Italian companies, including leading European automotive companies such as Volvo and Rampini, and the FTSE team, giving European automotive companies an initial understanding of Chinese hydrogen energy.
In 2024, accorded to the EU and Italian government’s new energy policies, PLD introduced FTXT to a new energy project at the Italian Polytechnic University. PLD led professors and company representatives from the Italian Polytechnic University on a visit to Great Wall’s base, strengthening the confidence of Italy and the EU in cooperating with FTXT.
From 2024 to 2025, to ensure Great Wall FTXT met European government bidding requirements, PLD and Great Wall FTXT signed a cooperation agreement. A joint bidding consortium was formed between PLD, an Italian company with EU qualifications, and FTXT . PLD drafted all the necessary bidding documents, and Great Wall Future’s international business manager visited Italy three times to conduct in-depth communication and explanation of the project’s technical parameters.
In June 2025, in accordance with the EU’s new energy investment plan, the bidding process officially began. After government certification, FTXT received the first round of bid-winning notification in September and officially received the EU government funds in October 2025.
After three months of meticulous preparation, FTXT completed the first phase of equipment manufacturing as scheduled. The Italian team also arrived in Baoding, China before Christmas to conduct preliminary acceptance testing for the first round of EU standards. In February 2026, after the equipment arrives in Italy, the Italian testing center will conduct commissioning and rigorous acceptance testing to ensure the Chinese equipment meets EU standards and obtains a license for official sales and operation in the European market.
The equipment provided by FTXT will become the exclusive equipment for Italy’s first hydrogen energy testing center.
On this occasion, the Italian team also visited the Great Wall Group headquarters and exhibition center, and held talks with the chairman of FTXT , Mrs. Hong Quan, General Manager of PLD , regarding the next round of cooperation.
This cooperation between Great Wall Group and Italy is inseparable from the hard work and professional coordination of Mrs. Hong Quan, General Manager of PLD, During the two-year preparation period, Mrs. Hong Quan led the Chinese team twice to Rome and Puglia, Italy, to facilitate the signing of an agreement between FTXT and the CNR (National Research Council of Italy) Italian Research Center. Simultaneously, she also led Italian companies and professors from polytechnic universities to China twice to personally assess FTXT’s strength and professional capabilities, ultimately leading to this cooperation. PLD, as a deep partner of both China and Italy, continues to follow up on future projects. At the meeting with Great Wall ,FTXT, Chairman Zhang Tianyu nominated Mrs. Hong Quan as special expert to assist FTXT in expanding into the European market.
This was a perfect collaboration between European and Chinese companies in the field of hydrogen energy, laying the foundation and demonstrating a concrete implementation model for Chinese hydrogen energy companies to go global.
